Day 1: EUCHARISTIC ADORATION IN HONOR OF JESUS TRUTH

OPENING SONG: “The God of All Grace” (BB 2016 # 318) or another suitable song

WORDS OF POPE FRANCIS (cf. Misericordiae Vultus n. 1-3, 8)

Jesus Christ is the face of the Father’s mercy … Jesus of Nazareth, by his words, his actions, and his entire person reveals the mercy of God. We need constantly to contemplate the mystery of mercy. It is a wellspring of joy, serenity and peace … At times we are called to gaze even more attentively on mercy so that we may become more effective sign of the Father’s action in our lives. (…) With our eyes fixed on Jesus and his merciful gaze, we experience the love of the most Holy Trinity. The mission Jesus received from the Father was that of revealing the mystery of divine love in its fullness … Everything in him speaks of mercy. Nothing in him is devoid of compassion.

SILENT PRAYER

OPENING PRAYER: Chaplet to Jesus Master, n. 1

SILENCE BEFORE THE GOSPEL READING

ALLELUIA – GOSPEL: Lk 10: 25-37 “The Parable of the Good Samaritan”

SILENCE – PERSONAL REFLECTION

WORDS OF BLESSED ALBERIONE: Cf. Brevi meditazioni per ogni giorno dell’anno, n. 48, p. 99-100)

Compassion: It is the first movement of a good heart that is touched and affected by sorrow. And this heart stoops to alleviate it. It sees; it feels and is afflicted by it; therefore, it seeks to remedy it. Let us consider Saint Vincent de Paul who gathers from the streets the orphans and beggars. He creates hospices, hospitals, charitable associations and rehabilitation places for the abandoned, the weak and the sick. He comforts prisoners, defends those in danger and brings bread to people starving on account of war.

In addition to corporal miseries, the sensitive heart is touched by moral miseries. It weeps with those who weep; suffers with the sorrowing; shares the humiliation and pain of sinners. It has no brutal words for the weak nor deals severely with sinners. It has words of encouragement, kindness and hope for all. It does not accuse nor defame. And since it understands human frailty, it wraps those who have fallen in a mantle of silence, sympathy and goodness. It never gloats over another’s failing nor tread down anyone. It lends a hand to those in danger. It is moved to pity and heals those wounded in mind and heart.

Instead, the evil heart is insensitive to the sufferings of others and, indeed, it does not see them. It passes by arrogantly and severely as if unseeing, just like the Jewish priest making his way to Jericho oblivious of the wounded who lies by the road side. It has no pity for the sick and would not sacrifice time or money to assist them. It tends to accuse, attributing their illnesses to not following rules. It is even more insensitive to moral sorrows. It denounces when one needs to be discreet; with insinuations and sinister interpretations, it aggravates the reputation of those who could still be saved. It seems to delight diabolically in treading down the fallen and the defamed. Instead of binding the wounds, it poisons and tears them. The misfortunes of others provoke indifference or brutality. Its heart is evil.

OPENING SONG: “Jesus, Come to Us” (BB 2016 # 400)

or another suitable song

WORDS OF POPE FRANCIS (cf. Misericordiae Vultus n. 12)

The Spouse of Christ must pattern her behavior after the Son of God who went out to everyone without exception … It is absolutely essential for the Church and for the credibility of her message that she herself live and testify to mercy. Her language and her gestures must transmit mercy, so as to touch the hearts of all people and inspire them once more to find the road that leads to the Father. The Church’s first truth is the love of Christ. The Church makes herself a servant of this love and mediates it to all people: a love that forgives and expresses itself in the gift of oneself.

OPENING PRAYER: Chaplet to Jesus Master, n. 2

SILENCE BEFORE THE GOSPEL READING

ALLELUIA – GOSPEL: Jn 13:12-17, 31-35

SILENCE – PERSONAL REFLECTION

WORDS OF BLESSED ALBERIONE: Cf. Brevi meditazioni per ogni giorno dell’anno, n. 142, p. 283)

To imitate Jesus Christ means to live according to his examples. We will live according to God if we will live according to Jesus Christ. One of the goals of the Incarnation is this: that the Son of God may become our way and model to attain Paradise. Thus he says: “I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.” Jesus was the Son of God totally pleasing to the Father: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” In making ourselves like Jesus, we will likewise be pleasing to the Father and will be saved. Those predestined should be similar to Jesus Christ. By the way we think, talk and act – those who see and hear us should be able to say: “Here is another Christ!” (…) He is infinitely good, beautiful and amiable. In view of our supernatural life, Jesus is all there is.

Day 3: EUCHARISTIC ADORATION IN HONOR OF JESUS LIFE

He Invites Us to Incarnate His “Merciful Love”

OPENING SONG: “Loving and Forgiving” (BB 2016 # 671)

or another suitable song

WORDS OF POPE FRANCIS (cf. Misericordiae Vultus n. 9 & 24)

God is always presented as full of joy, especially when he pardons. In them we find the core of the Gospel and of our faith, because mercy is presented as a force that overcomes everything, filling the heart with love and bringing consolation and pardon. (…) At the foot of the Cross, Mary, together with John, the disciple of love, witnessed the words of forgiveness spoken by Jesus. This supreme expression of mercy towards those who crucified him show us the point to which the mercy of God can reach. Mary attests that the mercy of God knows no bounds and extends to everyone, without exception … May Mary never tire of turning her merciful eyes upon us and make us worthy to contemplate the face of mercy, her Son Jesus.

SILENT PRAYER

OPENING PRAYER: Chaplet to Jesus Master, n. 3

SILENCE BEFORE THE GOSPEL READING

ALLELUIA – GOSPEL: Lk 15:1-32

SILENCE – PERSONAL REFLECTION

WORDS OF BLESSED ALBERIONE: Cf. Brevi meditazioni per ogni giorno dell’anno, n. 323, p. 618)

If a Christian falls into sin, let him not despair. There is divine mercy. The goodness of God calls back sinners. Jesus was accused of welcoming sinners and eating with them. Indeed, drawn by his goodness, many publicans and sinners went to Jesus to listen to him. Taking on the figure of the Good Shepherd, he said: “What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it?” (Lk 15:4). Moreover, “Or what woman having ten coins and losing one would not light a lamp and sweep the house, searching carefully until she finds it?” (Lk 15:8). When a soul falls into sin, the Lord makes him feel remorse, invitations, inspirations; he calls him back through deeds, persons and things.

The goodness of God welcomes repentant sinner … In his goodness, the Lord pardons sinner and infuses upon him great consolation together with his grace. Furthermore, the goodness of the Lord helps the converted sinner to persevere in the path of good. The prodigal son returned home not as a servant, but as a dear son.

“Forever I will sing the divine mercy” (Ps 89/88:2) … “The favors of the Lord are not exhausted; his mercies are not spent” (Lam 3:22)

BLESSED ALBERIONE’S POINTS FOR EXAMINATION, RESOLUTION AND PRAYER

Examination: Where would I be now if not for Jesus Christ’s special mercy? What greatness has he shown in rescuing me? In welcoming me? In comforting me through my fall? Have I corresponded? Have I treaded the path of true penitence?

Resolution: I will be humble: I was condemned to death through my sins, yet I have been graced.

Prayer: Lord,

great are you especially in sparing us from punishments

and by your mercy.

Let your mercy upon us abound

that we who look forward to your promises

may share in the heavenly riches.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ,

who lives and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

forever and ever.

Amen.
