After the Mass, the assembly joined the procession to Our Lady of Peace Memorial Park, where Sr. M. Lucia’s body was finally laid to rest.
And here is the eulogy and commendation of Sr. M. Gemma, Provincial Superior for Sr. M. Lucia:
Farewell for now, Sr. M. Lucia!
Our dearest Sr. Maria Lucia, we bid you farewell as you leave this earth and enter into eternal life where there is no more pain and suffering. The Lord has taken you with him to celebrate your 55th Jubilee of consecrated life in the eternal banquet, bringing to full transformation your 73 years of earthly sojourn! It was a well-prepared departure, preceded a little over a month ago by the reception of the Anointing of the Sick on the first Saturday of February, a day of Mary. I remember how you shone brightly after that, with the aura of one who was getting ready to meet her bridegroom! Now, we bring you to your resting place on another Marian Day.
Your life, our dear Sr. Lucia, has been “full:” full of Jesus Master’s love, and love of sisters, family and friends! That is why, one of your favorite words is “Thank you, Salamat!” In one of your spiritual notes, you wrote: “Lord, with much gratitude, I thank you for all you have given me – for my parents, sisters and brothers, for all who have shared with me their goodness in life. I ask you forgiveness for the times I have been ungrateful and have not thanked you enough.”
Your life has been full of self-giving in every little way that you can. This was made more visible in your relationships and apostolate especially during your missionary experience in Ireland where you dedicated 13 years of your life. Sr. M. Brid, the Delegate Superior from Ireland spoke highly of you saying: “What I admired her for was her great love for the altar and her dedication to have all things beautiful. Many people who visited the chapel of Adoration in Athlone were inspired by her floral arrangements. Their usual comments were: “These flowers help me to pray; they are an inspiration.” She had a great desire to help young children to experience the Adoration and every Saturday she would bring a small group of children to the chapel to pray and to explain the different symbols to them. She was a very simple and gentle person and was all ready to help. We all have lovely memories of her and we thank the Divine Master for having the privilege of knowing her.”
It has also been full of purification because of sickness and other forms of suffering. In the formative session and retreat last year, you reflected deeply on the reality of your human frailty and the need to be more conscious and focus on improving yourself and your relationship with others. I will carry with me your principal resolution: to be attentive to others in order to be able to understand the real situation, to talk less and do more listening.”
Now, as we bid you farewell, we also pray the Lord to give you the fullness of JOY, in his kingdom of Light. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRECIOUS PRESENCE, YOUR JOYFUL WITNESS AND PARDON US IF WE HAVE, IN ANY WAY, NOT LIVED UP TO YOUR EXPECTATION. GO NOW IN PEACE AND PLEASE WHISPER TO OUR BELOVED MASTER THE NEEDS OF EACH OF YOUR LOVED ONE, EVERY SISTER IN OUR COMMUNITY AND CONGREGATION, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN TO CELEBRATE THE ETERNAL EASTER TOGETHER WITH OUR RISEN LORD AND MASTER JESUS!
