An outreach to the community of Aetas at Burgos, Zambales last June 7, 2021 highlighted the midyear meeting of the PTH Provincial Government.

Sr. M. Anthony Basa, Provincial Superior of the Philippine-Taiwan-Hong Kong Province led her council in organizing the project in collaboration with Most Rev. Bartolome Santos, Bishop of the Diocese of Iba, Zambales and the staff of Ina Poon Bato Church in Botolan, Zambales. The sisters shared the blessings they received from friends and benefactors to about 75 families of Aetas.

The outreach moved the PTH Provincial Government to adopt Burgos Community of Aetas as a major JPIC (Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation) beneficiary.   Since, there is no electricity in Burgos and water is scarce, they committed to provide a solar panel in every home and make a regular visit to share goods to the community.  It is like bring the “community pantry” to our sisters and brothers in that remote area.

The sisters’ experience was made meaningful by the challenges they encountered on their way to the mission area. They were stranded for almost three hours because their vehicles were stuck in the sand while crossing the river. They have to cross 4 rivers and a long stretch of sandy terrain in order to reach Burgos.  Such situation provided them an opportunity to witness the generosity and bayanihan spirit of the Aetas and all those who came to the rescue. Many of these Katutubo unhesitatingly stopped to help, and one even apologized when he needed to leave. The sisters received the grace to recognize God’s formative hands even in crisis.
